Boston Marathon or Marine Corps Marathon?

Both are historic American marathons run on non-flat courses, but they occupy very different tiers. Boston is a World Marathon Major requiring a qualifying time, with a 2:01:52 course record and a field around 28,500. Marine Corps is open-registration, run through Washington DC's monuments with no prize money and no elite appearance fees by design — its course record (2:14:01) reflects a race built around participation and tradition rather than chasing fast times.

Marine Corps runs in late October, well clear of Boston's spring date, so there's no calendar conflict in targeting both. Choose Boston if the qualifying standard and Majors status matter to you; choose Marine Corps for a patriotic, monument-lined course with open entry and a genuinely different atmosphere.
